My To-Do List

Grandma may not blog, have an iPod, or text, but I’ll bet her grandkids do and there is evidence that Algerian grandkids are using these tools, as well.

This doesn’t mean that Grandma should be left out of the dialogue, but that it is important to use the appropriate tools for your audience. This was the subject of a good portion of the session yesterday morning when we tackled the subject of communications planning. We have provided communications plan templates to our hosts in both French and Arabic form and we have also created an electronic template in English.

Sometimes all of the tools that are available can be overwhelming and so it is incredibly important to prioritize our work (this is coming from the hypocrite who has 2,000 + tasks on my PDA!) I am going to try to practice what I preach this year, keeping the following communications planning strategies in mind that we discussed yesterday:
  • SWOT Analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)
  • Audience Identification
  • Goals and Objectives
  • Communications Tools and Strategies
  • Key Messages
  • Branding and Identity
  • Crisis Communications
  • Plan Measurement and Timeline

Sounds like a highly informative session, Wendy.

It would be great if the communication planning templates could be posted to the blog.

Wendy,
Your trip sounds fascinating. The motorcade experience sounds like our Annual Meeting in Nashville two years ago. We felt like such VIPs!
Please let us know if you have any LIVE video streams planned. We've done quite a few here recently.
Enjoy the rest of your trip, and give our best to the good people of Algiers!

Hey Tom Pyne - we were able to live stream using the hotel's wireless network, but not at the parliament building. Their internet security is tighter than Fort Knox (due credit to their stellar IT staff).

I'd really like to hear about the nuts and bolts of live streaming in PA.

(Don't know if you remember me - we met at a LINCS training in Portland a few years back.)

Thanks, Mike. We will definitely be posting the templates, PowerPoints and other supporting materials from our presentations and I hope to be doing the comm plan materials next ... I think it's sometime 'round Midnight here on the North coast of Africa and yet I seem to still be on Wyoming time!
